From Within New Fairfield itself: As most of the other municipalities in the Region, the extent to which employers in New Fairfield rely upon the working residents of New Fairfield to serve as their labor pool has fallen between 1970 and 2000, even though the absolute number of residents staying in town to work has increased.

The statistical chance of a New Fairfield resident filling any particular job opening in New Fairfield was 70% in 1970, falling to 56% in 1980, back up to 65% in 1990, and then down to 41% in 2000.

Workers Into New Fairfield From Nearby Municipalities: In 2000 the major geographic sources of labor to fill jobs in New Fairfield were as follows: from New Fairfield itself (1,288 or 41%), from nearby Danbury (521 or 17%), New York State (212), New Milford (171), Bethel (88), Sherman (88) and Newtown (79). Workers from just these seven locations filled 78% of all of the jobs in New Fairfield in 2000.
