WHERE BRIDGEWATER, CT'S EMPLOYED RESIDENTS GO TO WORK:
Stay To Work In Bridgewater Itself: The percentage of employed residents that remain in Bridgewater each day has steadily declined between 1970 and 2000, from 28% in 1970 to 19% in 1980, 18% in 1990 and then 16% in 2000.

Outflow from Bridgewater To Nearby Municipalities: It is not surprising that with semi-rural Bridgewater's close proximity to New Milford's much larger economic base, New Milford was a large destination for 2000 work trips (14%), exceeded only by Danbury (17%) as the regional hub and staying in Bridgewater itself (16%).

The 1980-2000 trend is for employed Bridgewater residents to be less dependent upon adjacent New Milford (down from 28% to 14%). As in most neighboring communities, the 1970-2000 trend is for employed Bridgewater residents to be less dependent upon jobs within the Housatonic Valley Region for their livelihood, with 72% working in the Region in 1970 but falling to 57% (546) in 2000.
