From Within Bridgewater Itself: As in most other municipalities in the Region, the extent to which employers in Bridgewater rely upon the working residents of Bridgewater to serve as their labor pool has been steadily falling between 1970 and 2000. The statistical chances of a Bridgewater resident filling any particular job opening in Bridgewater were 60% in 1970, 55% in 1980, 50% in 1990 and then down to 42% in 2000.

Workers Into Bridgewater From Nearby Municipalities: In 2000 the major geographic sources of labor to fill jobs in Bridgewater were as follows: from Bridgewater itself (147 or 42%), from Danbury ( 27 or 8%), nearby Roxbury (25 or 7%), New Milford (7%) Waterbury (6%) and Torrington (5%). Workers from just these six municipalities filled 74% of all of the jobs in Bridgewater in 2000.

Between 1980 and 2000 the local Bridgewater economy became less dependent upon Town residents to fill jobs, also less dependent upon nearby New Milford. At the same time the local economy became more dependent upon labor supply from various more distant locations.
