Intercity
bus service between Danbury and other cities and regions is
provided by private, for-profit carriers. This section provides
information on the two carriers providing scheduled inter-regional
service in Danbury.
BONANZA BUS LINES
Bonanza Bus
is the Region’s only provider of intercity bus service
operating between terminals on an established timetable. Bonanza
operates two lines in the Housatonic Region and has a terminal
on Elm Street in Danbury, directly across Kennedy Park from
the HART Pulse Point.
There is a flag stop in Gaylordsville at the Basketshop in
the southbound direction and in the vicinity of the firehouse
in the northbound direction. An additional stop and ticket
agent is located at Diane’s Amoco in New Milford at
28 Danbury Road, just south of Bridge Street. Archway News
in New Milford also serves as a ticket agent for Bonanza.
One line
provides 10 daily trips (9 on Sunday) in each direction between
Hartford and New York City, with Danbury as a regular stop
on all trips. Other stops made on the Hartford to New York
line allow trips between Danbury and Southbury, Waterbury,
and Farmington.
This line also provides part-time service between Danbury
and White Plains, Yonkers, New York, Manchester, Willimantic,
Danielson, and Providence, Rhode Island. Frequencies are one
hour during peak periods (morning toward New York/evening
from New York) and two hours off-peak.
Bonanza's
second line in the region serves both Danbury and New Milford
and travels between New York City and Albany, New York. Two
trips are provided in each direction. This line connects Danbury
and New Milford with Gaylordsville, Kent, and a dozen locations
in northwestern Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and New
York State.
Passengers
can use these two lines to connect to other Bonanza lines
serving Providence, Rhode Island and Pittsfield, Massachusetts
for service to Boston, Springfield, and other stops in Massachusetts,
Rhode Island, and Vermont. Connections to other intercity
services are possible hrough any other carrier serving the
Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, the South Station
Bus Terminal in Boston, or Union Station in Hartford.
Passengers
may purchase Greyhound
Bus Lines tickets at the Bonanza terminal.
Bonanza
has a distance-based fare structure depending on origin and
destination. Fares between Danbury and New York City are $14.00
one way, $25 round trip. Fares between Danbury and Waterbury
are $6.75 one way, $13.50 round trip. 30-day discounted commuter
passes are available. Children under age 12 ride for half
fare if accompanied by an adult, children under two ride free
if seating capacity is available.
CONNECTICUT LIMO
Connecticut Limo
is a private, for-profit carrier providing scheduled intercity
bus service between 18 major cities in the southwestern quarter
of Connecticut and southern New York to airports in the New
York Metropolitan Area. Most stops are located at hotels or
existing transit terminals.
In the
Housatonic Region, Connecticut Limo stops at the Danbury Radisson
on Lake Avenue and provides service to Kennedy, Bradley and
LaGuardia Airports according to a scheduled timetable. With
the exception of service to Bradley Airport, all service provided
by Connecticut Limousine is interstate. The company operates
terminals in New Haven, Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford
that serve the airports but provides no service between these
cities.
Buses
depart the Danbury Radisson 11 times per day for Kennedy and
LaGuardia Airports, and six times per day for Bradley Airport.
Regular
one way fares to JFK or LaGuardia from Danbury are $48, Round
trip fares are $92. Passengers traveling to Bradley Airport
pay $34 one way, $64 round trip.
Connecticut
Limo provides a host of promotional round trip fares for its
passengers. Companions ride at 50% of the cost of the regular
fare when accompanied by a full fare paying passenger. Children
under 14 ride free when accompanied by an adult (limit of
2 children; children 2 and under ride free even if one way
trip). Other discounted fares apply to Seniors age 65 or older
and Students.
