1. SHERMAN'S NEAR FUTURE
TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENTS

ROUTE 37 RECONSTRUCTION FROM
ROUTE 39 IN SHERMAN TO ROUTE 7 IN NEW MILFORD

Safety improvements and reconstruction of Route 37 from Route 39 in Sherman Center easterly to Route 7 in New Milford.

Route 37 eastbound entering New Milford from Sherman.

2. SHERMAN'S LONGER
RANGE TRAFFIC IMPROVEMENTS

FUTURE PROJECTS ON STATE ROADWAYS
— Minor safety improvements by Conn DOT if authorized by local officials. Proceed to Sherman state roadway overviews for Route 37, Route 39 and Route 55.

A view of Route 39 thru the attractive rural hamlet of Sherman Center.
Classified as a semi-rural remote area, this outlying small town has
minimal need, and low regional priority for, roadway capacity improvements.

3. SHERMAN'S OTHER
TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS

SCENIC ROADS ORDINANCE
Continue to administer the municipal scenic road ordinance, which well complements those of nearby communities.

TOWN CENTER PEDESTRIAN PLAN
— The 2001 Sherman Town Plan called for such a pedestrian analysis, and the Sherman Center Pedestrian Pathways Plan was completed by HVCEO in 2007.

Sherman Center Pedestrian Plan

TOWN OF SHERMAN BRIDGES WITH SPANS GREATER
THAN 20 FEET PERIODICALLY INSPECTED BY CONN DOT

Cooperate with Conn DOT on proper maintenance of such bridges, located on Sawmill Road and Evans Hill Road.

4. SHERMAN'S BUS
SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS

SHERMAN TOWN DIAL-A-RIDE
Sherman provides a dial-a-ride bus service for seniors and persons with disabilities between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday – Friday with a single small bus. The service is coordinated with the local FISH program, which provides volunteer transportation for medical purposes.

A second accessible vehicle to better serve disabled riders during the week would be a useful addition to the program. The implementation of service on Saturday and Sunday is a further goal.

Long term, coordinate operation of the Town provided service with regional service provided by HART. The First Selectman stated in 10/2007 that "while Sherman is meeting its transportation needs adequately at the present time, we believe that the need for a connection with HART will be essential in the near future as our community ages."
