TRUCK HEIGHTS
Note:
The national AASHTO 1994 "Policy on Geometric Design of Highways
and Streets", a non-binding guide on the states, recommends
a minimum vertical clearance for new bridges of 14' 5" but
RECOMMENDS 16' 5"As desirable. Conn DOT AIMS FOR 16' 7"
CLEARANCE FOR NEW BRIDGES, BUT sometimes permits new STRUCTURES
at 13' 9" on state roads to allow ONLY the legal truck height
to pass. Connecticut
State Statute 14-264 sets a height limit of 13' 6" for vehicles
operating on state roads, unless a waiver is obtained from Conn
DOT.
