REPORT ON LIMEKILN BROOK AQUIFER

A small, rural brook valley in the Dodgingtown section of Bethel (western side of above graphic) and Newtown (eastern side of map above) the location of this small about 1.0 square mile aquifer. Although shallow, coarse-grained sediments indicate this aquifer could provide a locally valuable water source.

No significant land use problems are evident here; principal uses are low density subdivisions and widely separated residences. Fairly substantial protection is afforded by wetland regulations covering a major portion of the direct recharge area, by zoning (R-80, 2-acre residential in Bethel, residential 1&2 acre in Newtown), and by a tract of reserved open space land.

Reservation of additional open space, preservation of wetlands, and stringent standards on on-site sewage disposal will comprise needed future protection measures.
