REPORT ON MERWINSVILLE AQUIFER

From the east bank of the Housatonic, this aquifer extends up the valley of Womenshenuk Brook to approximately the town line of Kent, and includes a direct recharge area of about 0.8 square miles.

Sedimentary composition is coarse-grained. Above the small residential village of Merwinsville, development consists primarily of scattered low-density residences (zoning consists of small neighborhood business zone, remainder of area is one and two-acre residential).

Desirable groundwater protection measures include prohibition of harmful discharges, wetlands and flood plain preservation, and strict standards for on-site sewage disposal.
