HISTORIC
BASE LINE DATA: 1980 HVCEO
REPORT ON WEST MOUNTAIN AQUIFER
This aquifer was too small to be evaluated by the 1980 study.
EXCERPT ON THE WEST MOUNTAIN
(PUMPING STATION SWAMP)
AQUIFER FROM A 1995 RIDGEFIELD PZC CONSULTANT’S STUDY
The aquifer is beneath the headwaters of the Waccabuc River,
a tributary to the Croton River, including the Croton Reservoir.
There are no USGS test holes drilled in the aquifer but two
well completion reports are on file at the Ridgefield Health
Department.
The wells
described by the completion reports are located on the periphery
of the aquifer and did not encounter aquifer material. The
CT DEP and USGS have mapped the aquifer as containing coarse-grained
stratified drift, but additional data are needed. The areal
extent of the aquifer is about 0.3 square miles. The Town
of Ridgefield zoning map shows the saturated thickness as
greater than 10 feet, but less than 30 feet. The source of
this mapping is unclear.
Although
the aquifer may contain some coarse-grained material, the
assumed thickness would be a limiting factor.
No analysis
of water samples for organic compounds has been performed.
Analysis for major ionic constituents are on file at the Health
Department. LBG's search of the CT DEP's records did not reveal
any significant threat to water quality.
The 7
day ten year low flow is estimated between 0. I and 0. 2 millions
gallons per day and the average low flow is estimated to be
about 0.3 million gallons per day from a total watershed area
of about 3.5 square miles.
DEP
MANDATORY REGULATORY
AREA IN WEST MOUNTAIN AQUIFER
The CT Department of Environmental Protection provides a map
of the mandatory regulatory area, the area
designated on this Ridgefield map.
